When it comes to outdoor entertaining there a few things to consider when you are investing in a new patio set. Follow our guide to help get your outdoor living space perfect for whatever oasis you are hoping to achieve whether it is an outdoor office or a new area for summer entertaining for years to come.

Before you buy, ask yourself these questions:

How much space do I have for patio furniture?

How do I plan on using the outdoor space – summer entertaining or quiet nook for reading?

What materials offer low maintenance and durability for the style I want?

Take a seat before you buy

Just like the purchase of a new couch for the inside of your home, you want something comfortable and functional for the outside. It is worth looking for pieces that have a dual purpose such as an ottoman that can be used as seating and for storage.

Invest in quality

You spend enough time taking care of your garden and hosting; find a patio set that lets you put your feet up and relax.

Consider weather; cast aluminum, cedar, and all-weather wicker pieces are sturdy enough to hold up to direct sun and rain. Not only are these pieces low maintenance, but they will also continue to look good for years, so you do not need to worry about changing out your set yearly.

Plain and simple; you get what you pay for. We go into more detailed explanations on our website.

What materials to buy?

Materials can be a confusing aspect when it comes to purchasing patio furniture. Look for UV-resistant fabrics to prevent damage and create a longer lifespan.

Powder coated sets are chip resistant and won’t diminish or rust compared to painted sets which can be damaged over time. Outdoor wicker sets made out of resin (PE) and UV inhibitors will not fade, versus PVC which can have a shorter lifespan as it can become brittle and tear.

If you want a unique focal point or accent in your space take a look at garden ornaments.

Bird feeders, fountains, statuary pieces and gazing balls are some great options to add. Outdoor rugs have grown in popularity over the years; their rich texture and colour make a bold impact on your patio space.

You can choose colours that bring out hues in your cushions. Adding a fire pit will extend your outdoor living enjoyment from early spring to late fall.
