Plants and people have had a long history together from agricultural crops to medicinal applications. In 1989, NASA conducted a study to see the effects of low gravity on plants and their ability to remove toxins from the air in hopes of purifying future space habitats.
Aside from eliminating carbon dioxide (CO2) the researchers also discovered that some plants were efficient in removing benzene, Trichloroethylene (TCE) and formaldehyde from indoor air. You can read the whole study online.
Here are our favourite houseplants that clean the air.
Houseplants for low light
If you have an area that receives minimal sunlight, all hope is not lost! These plants will be happy without any direct sunlight for long periods of time. Be careful not to over water.
Houseplants for medium light
These plants will enjoy a few hours of sunlight everyday.
Houseplants for high light
If thre is an area that has plently of direct sun, these tropical plants will thrive.
